| 内容記述 | 英語の辞書は誤りなきものと考えられている.しかし英国人 Samuel Johnson (1709-84)の言う如く Dictionaries are like watches, the worst is better than none, and the best cannot be expected to go quite true. 也と申し上げたい.誤りのない英語の辞書はない.\n日本の事物についての誤まった説明は,日本及び日本人について誤解を生むことになるので誠に遺憾である.約31年前英英辞書にある誤りに関心を抱いた.例えば London のRoutledge and Kegan Paul Ltd. 発行のThe Universal Dictionary of the English Language (1952年版) にあるthe Japan Seas の s である.この s は削除すべきものである.編集部に訂正を求めて文通を開始してより約21年が経過した. | |||||||||
